Update

I am going to use this post as a short catch up list and also some explanations for the future as to the events that have been happening the past week.

First I will not be posting a Monday Menu this week as we will be consuming left-overs and several other meals that have been offered and planned for us.

Last Tuesday night around 11:15pm, I received a call that Amanda and Remington had been involved in an accident. I rushed to the scene. At around 2:00am, Remington was pronounced dead. I am not including any other details at this time due to how this is currently a very sorrowful time and I am also afraid that anything I post could be taken out of context and used in a hurtful manner. When I first started this blog, one of the things I did not think I would have a problem with is total and complete openess. I still do not have a problem with this and but I do have to show discretion to also protect my family. I may at some point in the future include more details of this awful night but they would not add anything to this post.

Over the past 5 days several things have stood out in my mind:
1. My strength and faith remain in the personal relationship I have with Jesus Christ. Without this, I could not have survived any of this.

2. I am blessed with not only an awesome extended family but also an awesome church family. They have picked us up and carried us in loving arms over the past days.

3. The media as a whole are solely concerned with ratings and getting people to watch. Out of the 4 organizations that I have had to talk with last week, only one was human enough to not only honor our wishes but also to remember that we are grieving and not attempt to “imply” anything to make the story more interesting.

4. The kindness of strangers still exists and in my own mind outweighs the evil mentioned above and the evil that is lurking in alot of our society.

5. Life will never again be the same for anyone in this house but not all changes are bad.

6. God is in control………

Wordless Wednesday

The new favorite thing at my house is my tub! The girls could spend hours in it with and without bubbles!

How can you EVER say no to this face?

WOW MOM you really like us playing in here?
Zach HATES the water so he does not even want to join them!

Random Thoughts Tuesday

I need a random list this week..going to try to do an outline form.

– CVS trip yesterday..I did start with 3ECB but spent 10.38 and saved 38.63 or 79%.
– I am working between 18-24 hours a week and it is as much as I EVER want to work
– Working half days makes my life ALOT easier than trying to do longer days!
-We placed a deposit on a house in Fla for our Disney trip next year.
-I plan to save 200 a month in addition to use most if not all of our tax refund next year for this trip.
-We went shopping on Saturday and I also shopped today and I *think* except for a couple of bras and new shoes for Matt and I we have finally bought clothes for everyone
– Haley brought me home a devotional book from Life. It is awesome!
-I plan to upload pictures to Facebook from the photo shoot on Thursday..I sent out an email to my loop with Kendall pictures on and I have already scheduled a Wordless Wednesday post for tomm!

Catching up!

So it has been over a week since I have posted anything… I have been crazy busy so I am going to use this post to catch up! I will also tease ya with a promise of a awesome trip to Food Lion post that will appear later today as well as Wordless Wednesday will be Kendall’s birthday pictures and of course a Monday Menu post to come as well.

So I worked 22 hours last week in addition to Kendall’s birthday and cookout party being on Thursday. If things continue as we hope/plan then I will continue working but cut the hours to a max of 20 with 16 being the plan. I don’t mind going to work but the kids are all off schedule and we have had a couple of rough night with Kendall waking up and not wanting to sleep all night. All three of the little ones are much more clingy than usual but they all run to hug me as soon as I walk in the door from anywhere.

Kendall’s birthday was fun. We decided to have a cookout with my family and friends. We had around 20 people in the house but the kids were awesome. We ate around 5pm, the kids were all playing and before we realized it after opening present and cake and ice cream it was 8pm. I am so glad we did this for her birthday! Pictures will be posted on Wednesday!

Yesterday, Sunday was the Fourth of July. We had an awesome church service, lunch at the Chinese place . We met friends at the pool then went over to their house to eat left-overs from Kendall’s party and shot off some fireworks. I wish I would have gotten some pictures. Kendall LOVED the poppers and even asked for several Sparklers. She is definitely not afraid of anything. It was awesome to see her throw the popper and then dance! Today both Matt and I were suppose to have the day off but he already had an ESR so I am working on the laundry, my blog and then we are planning to go to the pool after nap!

The square foot garden is producing but it is not enough for us so we are going to multiple it time 3 next year. I did make an awesome cucumber relish with fresh cucumbers. I am going to make some diced tomatoes today because I have been given quite a few.

Last month was a budget blower. I spent 913 on groceries! Matt and I are talking and trying to rework this budget yet again. I have been able to start a small stockpile but last month we needed food so food we bought! I am averaging 638 a month for the past year for groceries which is where I want to be on a regular basis so maybe that is the number I should focus on! I was doing awesome on blogging until the past 2 weeks so that is an average month as well. I am going to focus on doing better and hopefully by making myself post about my failures the successes will come!

Stop I Want to Get OFF!

This is my exact feeling this week. I have been intending to post since Tuesday when the plan was to do a random post but that didn’t happen and yesterday was Wordless Wednesday that I missed so I am going to share what I have been up to this week.

Monday, Amanda had a doctor’s appointment and we stopped by the store for some veggies to make Tacos with. That evening we moved everything out of our old bedroom, pulled up the carpet and set up a “temporary bedroom.” in the Addition. We started sleeping on the air mattress and so far it is about the same as our old bed.

Tuesday- I spent the entire day except for an hour driving Amanda around while she purchased/leased a car and got insurance. I did go to a job interview, where I accept a PRN position with the hope that I can pick up an additional 10 hours a week this summer to catch up!

Wednesday- I worked 5 hours, came home and went to bed. A summer cold knocked me out and I slept around 12 hours. I do feel better today but not great.

Thursday- I took Angel Food orders at the church while organizing my coupons that I have not worked with since April. I also went to an IEP meeting as a parent advocate for a patient of mine at the hospital. Lily actually sad to me that she “needed a lazy morning to stay at home could we please have one on Friday.” I agree.

Stop world I want to get off and stay at home!

MAY in Review

Wow! I can’t believe it is already the 3rd day of June. May turned out to be a very very busy month for us indeed. I have got a few minutes to update on the monthly goals.

Blogging- I just checked the number of post for the month and it was 21. Not too bad considering that I have been really trying to blog at least 5 times a week. This is the same number of post as January and the second highest, with March being the most. I wonder why I was able to post so much in March?

Reading my Bible- I sucked at this and need to make it a higher priority! This will be my focus on June.

Preschool with Lily- We have completed 6 days of preschool this month. The biggest thing is that I have finally finished the planning part of “Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons.” I am going to start this with Lily either tonight or tomm.

budget- It sucked this month, if you read my last post you understand why. My goal is to spend 500 a month or less on groceries including diapers, formula, cleaning and personnel items. Last month I did provide the food for Amanda’s baby shower but my grocery budget was over $1000. I have got to get better and at least down to the average of $620 for June!

Work is needed in all areas but I know that God will show the way!

God is AMAZING!

When I started to blog one of the things that I did not think I would ever have trouble doing was blogging honestly and out there. But over the past several months, I have struggled with this issue several times. One of my struggles has been regarding Amanda and my new grandson that is due to arrive in the very near future, I am staying with my decision not to discuss her on the blog at this time, really it is for her protection and mine as well. But the other area that has been a struggle is our financial situation. I am always excited to blog about the “deals” I find and do so without a thought in the world. I have also blogged about the emergencies that have arouse in the past month as well as a general idea of how I am doing with my goals. But I have been somewhat careful not to include numbers in some areas. But today, if you care to read I am going to be really open and honest and thankful to GOD!

3 years and 3 months ago, we decided to “build an addition” to the house. Our original goal was to do so debt free but then it was to do so with as little debt as possible. Currently besides our regular mortgage we have a total of $13000 in a personnel loan and credit card debt toward the addition. At the beginning of the year even, as we were quickly approaching the end of the project we decided NO MORE DEBT. We were going to finish it with what we could scrape out of our budget and then refinance hopefully with a lower interest rate to buy some of our wants to make it what we dreamed. We were so close and I had actually figured we could finish the bare minimums required for the inspection and certificate of occupancy by June. That was before Matt’s income took a nose dive and we ended up with a $1400 transmission repair. All that was needed was the hot water heater.

This past Sunday during out time of praise and prayer request for Sunday school, God worked a miracle. I shared briefly about all the things that seem to be going wrong at our house the past couple of weeks; transmission, Amanda’s car, my tickets, State Income tax return still being messed up and missing. After sharing, we were asked if some could gather around and pray for our family, OF COURSE. But God was not finished, following this several people asked some questions and then God provided us with enough cash money to buy the water heater and the other supplies we didn’t know we needed to finish up the task. Yesterday, I was able to get my van legal again with the inspection and tag. Today, we got the final inspection and certificate of occupancy for the addition! I will start the process to refinance this week which should allow us to start attack our debt and be the majority of the way out of debt by the end of the year!!!

The only thing left to say is GOD IS AMAZING!!!!!!!

Randon Thoughts Tuesday

I actually remember to do this on Tuesday!

I realized on my trip to Harris Teeter last Wednesday that I have not been reporting/giving credit to myself for the actual amount saved. I have not been including my “VIC” saving in my total.

On Sunday, Matt, myself and the 3 little kids made a second trip to HT this week. I spent $55 saved $124 or 69%. This was a great trip considering we ended up with 5 cases of drinks for Matt’s lunch. I am debating a third trip today but it probably will not happen.

We also went to CVS on Sunday. There were already out of the Body wash that would have made this an awesome trip and I forgot my free coupon for “Little swimmers.” So I will most likely make a trip to another CVS this week to take advantage of the money maker. I did get a raincheck for the body wash but I will be able to do this deal twice if I can find the items in stock.

I have totally shot the grocery budget for this month, my excuse is that I bought all the food for Amanda’s shower. So to try and at least use some of this food for us I have spent the better part of the last 2 days steaming, and freezing things such as broccoli and carrots. I will also be freezing the celery to use in soups this winter. Today, I am trying a new recipe that involved using alot of veggies that I had already decided I need to use up! I hope it turns out well because I ended up using 6 chicken breast in it as well. I have made 2 dozen muffins and need to freeze half of these and then make a batch of banana bread to use the rest of the 9lbs of bananas I bought at half price last week. I hope to finish all this up today and make some baby food for Zach to eat. Yesterday he ate no “bought” baby food which was awesome. If I do nothing but save on the purchase of baby food that should get me back on track for June with the budget. I did come in 150 less than the average in April so if I can do the same in June, I will break even.

My garden is growing awesomely. I notice this morning that the jalapeno pepper is blooming. I have now transplanted everything and each square has something growing in it! I will try and get a picture to post soon.

A “Normal” Weekend

For the past several years (since prior to Lily’s birth) it seems that every weekend during the school year is filled with activities and places/events we need to attend. In addition to that for the past 3 years we have been working on the addition with any and all of our spare time especially on the weekend. But this weekend feels different and I am working if this is what a “normal” weekend is suppose to be.

On Saturday we had Angel Food distribution which meant that Matt was at the church at 6am and I arrived about 7:45am. We have had to move the distribution times forward and it seems like we almost had an extra day as a result. Matt ended up on call this weekend and had to make a trip out after the distribution but that was ok. I was able to come home and make a quick trip to CVS while the little kids napped. Saturday evening after Matt got a short nap we decided to work in the addition. He was able to put up modeling and baseboards to finish out the bathroom closet. So I started moving items and organizing some things as well as cleaning out more junk that needed new home. We ended up at supper time and I spent a couple of hours watching TV.

Today, Sunday, we had church this am. My mom fixed lunch this week so we ate lunch with my whole family today which is a nice treat about once a month! Matt and I decided to invite some friends over for dinner before the variety show at church tonight. We had a Mexican feat that will provide leftovers on Tuesday evening for dinner. I stopped at Aldi and CVS to do my weekend shopping. Matt stayed home and did the last minute cleaning :). Dinner and the variety show were fun! Now tonight I am blogging and working on coupons which I enjoy. The best thing is that I am tired but not exhausted as I usually feel on Sunday night and I “think” I had a weekend! So is this a normal weekend?

Count your Blessing

Growing up this was one of my favorite songs. I woke up this morning with the tune and words in my head. So after waiting all day to decide what to blog about, I figured this might be a good day to be thankful for what I have and not focus on what I don’t..Will you join me and leave a comment with your “blessing” today?

1. A wonderful husband who is willing to help with laundry, dishes and house cleaning as long as I ask.
2. 5 wonderful children who every day I can see making stride and enjoying life. (OK only the three little happen every day but I still love my teens!)
3. A borrowed van that allows me to work and do simple errors but more importantly give me the ability to not be stuck at home!
4. A job that allows me to work a couple of hours a week.
5. Money to cover the bills for the month and “promised” money to be able to cover the unexpected expense of a new transmission.
6. A garden with growing plants and flowers that is exciting to watch grow!

Count your blessing with me today!
