Random Thoughts Thursday- 5/16/2013
- Both little girls had eye appointments last week and we received some good news, Kendall’s eye are stable, corrected to 20/20 with glass so she will not need to be seen again for six months! Lily’s weak eye has improved as well and she will no longer be patching! She continues to need to be seen every 3 months but she is so excited to stop patching after 3 year!
- All of Zach’s dental bill have been processed by the insurance company and after requesting refunds, which I will turn around and pay on the remain bill, we only owe an additional $93. This is a huge relief and praise as the original bill I received last week was $696
- Budgeting this month has gone really astray. I am struggling to get a grip on the coming in but more importantly on the amounts we are spending. I know that a significant amount is school/end of the year related but man I wish it would slow down.
- Haley is fast approaching Graduation from high school. She presented her final English project today and has a presentation next week that is very stressful for her. But she is counting the days till she walks across the stage. She also is searching for a job for the summer.
- Matt has been working on the car, Haley purchased from Amanda, hopefully it will be completed and ready to drive by the end of May.
- I have a student who is shadowing me this week and starting next week will be “taking over my caseload” to complete her education. I did not realize until this week how difficult and stressful my job can be! But I still love it!
- The only success I had with starting my garden from seeds this year was the cucumbers. I hope to replant the other items this week.

Random Thoughts Tuesday- April Catch-up
So this is the perfect chance for me to get all the information that I had intended on post on the blog out in one great list! The order is how it pops in my head.
- We were able to sell our old lawn mower for $100 after posting it for less than 3 hours on Craigslist. This makes our first payment on the new lawn mower
- I was able to confirm that if we can pay off the new lawn mower in 12 months without a late payment it will be interest free so that has been added to my financial goals!
- Haley complete her driving requirements of 52 hours on our trip to the beach. She is now an official licensed driver without restrictions in NC!
- We all really enjoyed our short trip to Myrtle Beach to watch Lily’s competition. The girl performed really well on Saturday and did a great job on Sunday. They ended up placing 4 of 7 teams!
- One of the fun things we did on this trip was shop. Haley has lots of new summer clothes. I was able to find Nike shoes for both Kendall and Zach for under $20 each. Matt also has a new pair of Nikes for less than $50. Finally I was able to grab some flip flops and camis for myself at the Old Navy outlet
- Myrtle Beach was COLD!!! With the wind and the temperatures only in the 60s I did not even step foot in the sand. I did enjoy our awesome view from our balcony! Pictures will hopefully be posted this week as well.
- We enjoyed several great meals on our trip. On Friday night, we ate at PF Changs. It was awesome and even Haley said she enjoyed it! Saturday night we ate at Cheeseburger in Paradise, another great meal for I do wish I had tried the Key Lime Pie. So that means that it is on my return list!!!!
- This was probably one of the most STRESS FREE trips we have taken in several years and I hope that we can do it again!
- This week we have returned to our crazy schedule and I have decided that it is time to get serious about my diet. I now want to catch up to my goal of 4# a month by May which would be a total of 25 # down!!! I have gone back to a food journal in hopes that it will keep me accountable and on track!
- The weather has been awesome the last several days, Matt has done some improvements to my Square foot garden and I ordered dirt this year! I hope this will double the amount of food we are able to harvest!
- Haley has been excepted into the Early Childhood program at our local community college. She will begin in the fall with 16 credit hours.
- It is 12 weeks till Kendall’s birthday, random fact I discovered at work today!
Driving in the Car
It seems that we have been spending quite a bit of time in the car over the past week. Starting with last Wednesday, after work I decided to make a trip to the Doctor’s office with Kendall and Zach. The picture above is from then. I knew we were headed out-of-town on Friday morning and did not want to end up traveling with tow sick kids. It ended up to be a wasted trip as both kids had “colds”. Luckily by Friday morning they both were filling better and up for the 4 hour drive to Myrtle Beach for Lily’s competition. I will provided more details and pictures soon!
Zach’s Surgery
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww! That my friends is a sigh of relief. Zach had his dental surgery yesterday and after a long day of recovery, he is back to his normal self today! I am going to write out the details so that 15 years from now I can remember.
We arrived at the surgery center exactly at 6am. Granny and Pawpaw came over really early to pick up Lily and Kendall. We were the first ones at the surgery center so the first part of waiting was quick, by 6:20 we had been taken back into the pre-surgery waiting rooms. Zach refused to have his weight checked, so I ended up standing on the scales with him, more good news I had lost 2 pounds! Zach was not at all cooperative with anything that need to happen. He didn’t like the socks, didn’t want to change shirts, and he didn’t want to take any medicine. We ended up waiting close to 45 minute in this room and by the end he had adjust to everything and I got about half of the medicine in him which started making him sleepy so he was not horrible leaving with the nurse for surgery. The dentist spoke with us and talked about really trying to save all his teeth. Zach left crying with the nurse and we went to the waiting room. We did receive a call about 5 minutes later that he was asleep and didn’t cry long. I am guess this was about 7:30. Around 9 the dental assistant came out to tell us that they were not able to save the front two teeth. Matt and I were both disappointment but we decided to be positive with Zach so he would not think it was a bad thing. At 9:30 the dental assistant return to give us discharge instructions.
Less than 10 minutes later, we were escorted back to the recovery area, Zach was upset because he had pee and wanted his mom. After changing him and calming him down we headed home around 10:40am.
Zach was very medicated when we brought him home, he was seeing neat things in the car, had trouble holding his head up and was very very slow eating his ice cream. The effects lasted the rest of the day. Zach attempted to stand up out of the car seat and “fell on his but and could not get up.” We had to carry him around for at least 2 hours. Zach would stand up and you could see his body leaning and falling. Around noon, Lily and Kendall came home and we all took naps. After the nap, Zach could walk around but still was tired and laid around most of the day.
Today, he is going full steam ahead with two missing teeth!

3/21- A Day to Remember
Today has been one of those day, where we have been constantly on the run! I had a long list of things to accomplish and I can proudly say that I finished them all. Zach had his pre-op appointment this morning. It was really a joke, he does weigh 30 pounds and is officially 3 feet tall. The remark that sums up the entire visit was when the CNA asked “Do you think you can get him to pee in a cup?” My response “Seriously?” So without the aforement test Zach was cleared for the surgery. We celebrated by visiting Burger King…..
Next I was able to head to the Beauty Salon and get my hair colored. No picture of that of course. So to end the day, Haley and I headed to the DMV. Haley discovered last week that her permit would expire on Saturday, her birthday. If she chose to wait till after that to attempt to get her license then she would be required to retake the written test. Today, she only had to pass the driving test.
Yes I passed!
The part I don’t understand in North Carolina is that she is now allowed to drive “unsupervised” between the hours of 5am and 9pm, in addition she is required to complete an additional 12 hours of supervised driving of which 6 must be at night. In 6 months, if she has not had any tickets and these requirements are met she will become eligible for a full fledge license.
